Massage & YogaMassage Therapy
Massage Therapy is a universal term used to describe many modalities of therapeutic touch. The goal of these techniques is to elicit a relaxation response and return the body to a state of balance and relieve discomfort. This is accomplished through the manipulation of soft tissue structures and application of pressure and mindfulness. Massage reduces stress on the body, mind, and spirit; and promotes health and vitality. Every system of the body benefits from the therapeutic touch of massage. Each modality is unique and they can be blended together in an intuitive way to personalize your massage. My studies have been in Acupressure, Cranio-sacral, Deep Tissue Massage, Swedish Massage, Reiki, Yoga, and Meditation. I also incorporate a variety of techniques such as breath work, joint range of motion, imagery & visualization, developing awareness, listening, and dialoguing.
Descriptions of Massage PracticesAcupressure - release of localized tender or tight spots often found in constellations of acu-points surrounded by areas of constricted muscle tissue which will soften or "melt", give off heat, or other sensation of energy movement when stimulated, allowing energy to circulate freely. Pressure of touch is decided by the client. A full session of acupressure is done with client fully clothed and lying face up on the table. Cranio-sacral - subtle contact and manipulation of cranial, facial, spinal, and sacral structures to reduce restrictions and improve the flow of cerebral spinal fluid (CSF). The oscillations of each bone and rhythm of the CSF are felt, and the therapist senses areas where restriction or stuck patterning inhibits their freedom to move. This work is extremely subtle, clients unwind to a very deep state of stillness. A full session of cranio-sacral work is done fully clothed. Deep Tissue Massage - deeper technique utilizing pressure - broad and focused, to reduce adhesion and fascial (connective tissue) restriction. Especially effective for people with bulky dense muscular body types and for those who enjoy a stronger feel of pressure to release their tension. Recommendation: heat therapy to soften muscles. Swedish Massage - the basic training of massage therapists in the United States. A gentle and relaxing style of long calming strokes, petrissage (squeezing), friction, vibration or rocking, tapotement (percussive tapping), and stretching or range of motion. Blended together, these strokes are a fluid dance of movement. Reiki - connecting with the source of universal love. The therapist's hands are placed in a series of positions on or over the body. The effect is deeply soothing and nurturing. Reiki is received clothed lying on the table. The spirit of Reiki is ever present in all sessions. |
